Gators Survive Bulls Invasion Of The Swamp

The #18 Florida Gators held on to win battle between USF 31-28. The game had five lead changes. The Gators won despite an off game from QB Anthony Richardson who dominated last year against the Bulls. Richardson went 10/18 for just 112 yards. He threw two interceptions. 

The Gators took the lead on an Adam Mihalek 31-yard field goal. USF would take its first lead of the game on a 10-yard Brian Battie run. 

Late in the second quarter the Gators started to pull away. After taking the lead early on with a 62-yard touchdown run by Montrell Johnson Jr., USF would tie the game at 10 with a field goal. With 4:45 left in the half, Nay’Quan Wright would score on a seven-yard run to give Florida a 17-10 lead. A Jalen Kimber 39-yard pick six would extend the lead 24-10. USF added a field goal right before halftime. 

USF closed the gap in the third quarter when Gerry Bohanonscored from six yards out. They would take the lead in the fourth on a Michel Dukes one-yard run 28-24. The Gators would answer back with 5:05 left in the game on a Trevor Etienne three-yard run. 

Johnson Jr. had six carries for 103 yards and Etienne had 56 yards. Wright added 37 yards for the Gators. 

Trent Whittemore and Justin Shorter had 33 yards a piece receiving to led the Gators. 

For the Bulls, Bohanon threw for 116 yards but also two interceptions. Bohanon was more effective on the ground, rushing for 102 yards on 15 attempts. 

Battie had 150 yards on the ground on 17 attempts. Xavier Weaver had eight receptions for 82 yards but lost a costly fumble. 

UP NEXT

#18 Florida Gators (2-1) take to the road for the first time this season against Tennessee in SEC action next Saturday.

South Florida (1-2) will play at Louisville next Saturday for the first time since 2012 in Louisville.
